About Hutton Stone
Hutton Stone Co Ltd, established in 1994 and based at West Fishwick near Berwick-upon-Tweed, combines quarrying, stone merchant, banker masonry, and specialist stonework services under one roof. The family has nearly two centuries of involvement in natural stone across six generations. The company operates three exclusive quarries producing Swinton Sandstone (a clean greeny buff freestone), Hazeldean Sandstone (a white-to-cream stone positioned as a Craigleith alternative), and Darney Sandstone, plus stocks a further 18 block varieties for a total of 22 stone types. With 40 employees, 11 masonry saws including CNC profilers, Hutton Stone produces approximately 80 m² of walling daily. Services include hand-dressing, CNC profiling, restoration and historic stone matching, bespoke carving by resident carvers, contract sawing, and design consultation. Heritage projects include the restoration of the Royal Border Bridge using Darney sandstone, work recognised with the Natural Stone Awards for Repair & Restoration 2022. The company is a Stone Federation Responsible Sourcing Pledge signatory.
